Garbage disposal mounting ring stuck.

Insert a screwdriver or disposal wrench into the mounting bracket on the lower mounting ring. Always use tongs or needle nose pliers to remove an object. As the lower ring is turned each tab grabs onto a flange red arrow the flanges are actually ramps as this side view shows. Make sure the disposal outlet faces the drain pipe connection.

Never place your hand in the disposal. I had trouble getting the rusted metal ring to move to remove the old unit but i finally got that stubborn sob to turn and the disposal is off. As i mentioned in another thread i m trying to replace my old kenmore garbage disposal with a new model since the old one won t work. It screws onto the drain and then holds a mounting bracket for the garbage disposal.

A garbage disposal flange is the part of the unit that connects it to the underside of the sink drain. So now i m trying to remove the rusted ring and the flange. When there is a problem with the garbage disposal chances are very good that you will need to remove it from the flange in order to work on it or replace it. Turn clockwise until the disposal is locked into place.

Disconnect power unplug the garbage disposal or if the garbage disposal is hardwired turn the power off at the electrical box.
